In memory of 林燕妮 (Eunice Lam). News “林燕妮因肺癌病逝享年75歲” & news (with video). Following are some random old articles by Eunice. Great articles. Wonderful taste. Interesting & insightful person. RIP.
P.S. I will defend freedom of press to the nth degree. But there is nothing stopping me from despising you and pissing on you “reporters”. Shame on you all! Shame on us for reading and watching. There are days I ask myself why should I keep reading and watching these rubbish and sometimes spending time to write complain? May be deep down I still imagine you could change for the better? May be I still think the good you do (reporting Chinese/HK news that no one dare to report because of political or conflicting-financial (ad money) reasons) can out-weight the awful? I don’t know anymore.”
“唉,面對蘋果,我只會短話長說。 I still give a sh*t about Apple Daily. I still harbour hope that it will change for better one day. To be realistic, I should have given up on Apple but there are some Chinese/HK news items that ONLY it will risk the political/financial consequences to report. Yes, I am “Too Simple, Sometimes Naive”.”
I left a few comments as a result of reading the article 鐵醫手記:結局篇 – 盧寵茂 – 20120722 (posted below). The main ones were made on July 21 and 24.
Here is my July 21 comment:
Dr. Lo, I hope your strong message in this final column will get the appropriate senior editors at Apple Daily to investigate and report to us readers of what happened with the supportive comment in your last column “鐵醫手記:七一後記”. Readers deserve to find out what had happened.
Now, I am not a fan of Apple Daily as I have written many posts over the years with tags — Apple Daily 痛心疾首 (you can Google them). At the same time, I doubt that Apple editors had gone so low to “審查貼文內容”?! Could the supportive messages been simply flagged and removed as spam by other troll users who couldn’t bear to see good arguments supporting your article “七一後記”? It seems possible to me.
Logically, why should Apple editors care about the comments? The more people argue, the more people will read the columns and the more papers/ads they sell. The Apple Daily reporters and editors can and do fail at many things (and I’ve written about many of them) but if I were a betting man, I am betting my dollar that they didn’t do it here. I personally don’t think the editors are at fault here.
Apple editors, you own us an explanation here.
My July 24 comment:
I am disappointed with Apple editors that they have not provided a full reply here. Instead, he/she decided to respond indirectly via an anonymous writer’s column. Again, the minimum courtesy is NOT shown to a former columnist (Dr. Lo) and the readers. Disappointing.
For the record, “沙膽虹手記:鐵醫 後會有期” http://hk.apple.nextmedia.com/news/art/20120723/16538559
Read the rest of this entry »
Of course, in the minds of Apple Daily editors (and reporters), they simply can’t give up a great chance to cartoonify news and make things more “interesting”. The heck with reporting the truth in news.
“Four of the Century 16 theaters were simultaneously showing the film, and all were sold out.
He bought a ticket for theater nine. But a few minutes after The Dark Knight Rises began rolling, he was seen leaving the auditorium.
A US law official interviewed by the Associated Press said that Holmes then propped open the back door of the cinema and went out to his car, where he readied himself for the hurricane of violence he was about to unleash.”
Assuming theater nine was showing The Dark Knight Rises, then we now know Apple Daily mis-reported the gunman “不忿買不到首映戲票” by rushing to report unreliable sources.
For the record. Lee Tze Chung (社長李子誦) was one of the most respected newspaper man I know given he worked for a communist-led newspaper in HK. I am saddened by the passing of Mr. Lee.
I don’t like 梁振英 CY at all and I don’t know 陳冉 and haven’t met her. But I am f*cking sick and tired of the cheap shots Apple Daily fired at anything/anyone related to 梁振英 CY.
By my standard, Apple Daily reporters should be so ashamed of what they are printing in their newspapers everyday and stop accepting the Annual Human Rights Press Awards, stop printing self-congratulating articles like “《蘋果》奪 11項人權新聞獎“.
Congrats Apple Daily, your cheap shots have sunk you lower than CY 梁振英.

I am glad the newspaper column “Central, Hong Kong Pretty Girls” (“中環我至靚”報紙專欄) is finally “dead” (last column 2012年01月27日) after my previous article “中環我至靚 – 蘋果日報 與 新聞自由” urging (although I am sure they didn’t cancel the column because of my complains),
“I am a keen observer of pretty girls in HK and around the world. Unfortunately today, against my better judgement, I will argue the Hong Kong newspaper Apple B.B. Daily should voluntarily stop taking photos of some of these pretty girls (中環我至靚) in Central, Hong Kong. Yes, some of these photos taking and publishing has to be stopped! Especially many of the photos that I love the most. Isn’t this paradoxical?“
Now, after watching Bill Cunningham New York (2010) multiple times featuring Bill from New York Times, I can finally articulate why I did not like 中環我至靚.
First of all, I LOVE pretty girls which is why I HATE the way Apple B.B. Daily has objectified them. To me, pretty girls on the street are transitory pleasure that are meant to be noticed and paid attention to for a few seconds and then left alone. We, the readers, were implicitly invited to judge (agree or disagree) the “beauty” of the girls in the photo. WTF did these girls do to deserve Apple B.B. Daily singling them out for judgement including personal ridicule?
Well, let me challenge Apple B.B. Daily in creating a brand new Sunday column as fun as and as insightful as Bill Cunningham’s New York Times “On The Street”. And please cut the crab in the phoney voice over and be fair and level minded for a change. I am no expert but you know who you can learn from right?
