I have never met, in persons, these kids (nor their parents): Simone, Helga & Jaci, 靜舒, 方芳 & 悠悠, and I may never meet them. But I feel I’ve “known” them since they were babies and love them like an uncle. Of course, I’ve met some of my friends’ and relatives’ kids face-to-face and it has always been fun for me. My great friend Rudolph’s daughter, the so cute little OO, can sing like a song bird and she can remember the lyrics to so many songs, simply amazing.
Yes, I love kids, as far as I remember, I always have. To move the discussion to a higher level of abstraction, my love of kids may have actually grown from my deeper desire and hope to see a better tomorrow for these future inhabitants in our pale blue dot. The more loved they are, the smarter they are, the more compassionate they are, the more …, the more likely they will be able to face and resolve some of the challenges my generation has created for them.
[Thanks to Gwen for inspiring me to write this entry. And I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of Gwen and Ian’s little one.]
