“Vision without action is just an illusion” is very right. And for me, I prefer to dream more in the day as I have more control of what I can make possible in the day.

I will let Michelle and the other ladies of 2weeks1gather to decide how best to proceed on this suggestion. I can help more if it is a go (re: the technical requirements, setups, etc).

其實有很多事情在現今的科技都可行,而且分分鐘都可能是免費的。但時機成熟未,或者應唔該該做,則是另外一回事。I live my online life in a reasonably open manner, but I can see some of us have a stronger desire to stay more anonymous. Of course, our world is a give and take world and sometimes we do have to risk a little (hopefully not too much) in order to progress. I guess it is up to us to decide if we want to participate or not and when (may be not now but later).

「兩周一聚」網友,what do you think?

    Hi 火羽,

Good to hear you are interested and ready.

Lets see what Michelle and other other ladies organizers of 2weeks1gather’s thought about this suggestion first.

What about the time zone difference? It’s almost impossible to find a time fit everyone.

  4. kempton says:

    Horace,

Yes, I am aware there is time differences. 但我睇只係事在人為。If a virtual tea party is a good idea, I am sure we can find a way and find a time.

There may be many reasons for “why not”, but you just need one to go ahead.

    hey Kempton 你真熱心 ! 不過你知啦C9們最忙的時候就是 weekend, 加上時差問題,我地幾個也好難找到時間同時相聚,這樣吧,我跟她們談談,有好消息的話通知你! 再謝謝 !

    Hi Michelle,

With families and kids, C9們 indeed 最忙的時候就是 weekend. But of course, that is also the time that we can stay up later (if needed) and have some time to rest if need to be.

The time difference problem reminds me of the time difference between north america and Hong Kong, something like 12-16 hours time difference. And we still manage to connect with love ones across the big ocean.

    Have a good weekend.

Here are some thoughts re virtual tea party:

    * I used Skype 3-4 yrs ago and found the Canada-Europe connection at the time a bit “choppy”. But perhaps the technology has improved since then.

    * Instead of imposing on the 2weeks1gather C9s to do more work, perhaps those who want to try can do a pilot and report back on their experience.

    * The pilot participants will need to establish some basic understanding and perhaps a set of “ground rules” to address potential legal and ethical issues.

    * I encourage everyone to be pro-active, but at the same time I also believe in good planning and careful prep work.

    Haricot,

    * Skype voice is pretty stable but the connection quality depends on the network, congestions, etc.

    * I like the idea of a pilot with people who wish to participate can participate. This will be less imposting for the 2weeks1gather C9s.

    * Glad to hear you like the idea and are proactive about it. Since I started this discussion thread, I don’t feel appropriate to push the idea much further.

Let me write something up and propose something.

At the moment, I am thinking of having a quorum of five people (at least or more) to hold our first chat. If we can’t get five existing members interested, then we are not ready yet.

Hi Kempton: Thank you for your response.

Please feel free to incorporate all or parts of the following ideas into your proposal:

Re: My previous comments “…The pilot participants will need to establish some basic understanding and perhaps a set of “ground rules” to address potential legal and ethical issues.”

Suggested questionnaire to participants prior to the pilot:

    1. Have you used web-cam based communication technology such as Skype before? If yes, please describe your experience and any concerns you might have.

    2. Do you have any personal issues with real-time, face-to-face communications? If yes, please describe.

    3. Are there any specific topics that you would like to discuss/chat at the first meeting?

    4. Are you prepared to disclose the following data/information? Please state yes/no/maybe plus any remarks:

    4.1 Name(s) other than your blog-based pen-name
4.2 Personal data such as city, occupation, family, etc. Please list data/info that you absolutely do not wish to be discussed or mentioned during the on-line session.
4.3 Your IP address (note: Some on-line technology will track and capture this info without prior consent anyway, please be aware)
4.4 Recording of any kind, digital or otherwise (this includes images, audio, video, or combination thereof) during the on-line session.
4.5 Your agreement to release the organisers/participants of any legal liabilities arising from this pilot (note: Privacy acts, criminal laws and other legislative matters vary from one country to another. Please consult the legal professionals of your local jurisdiction if you have serious concerns or problems).

    Wow Haricot,

Wow! You have one very very long and detailed questionnaire! Tell you what, lets see if we have the minimum five people wanting to chat first.

Once we have five or more, I think we can come to something rather quickly. No point spending so much time with these details when may be we can come up to something quickly.

It took me only a few days to arrange an interview with four absolute strangers that I have never “met” nor write on the web, so our chat shouldn’t be this complicated.

    Regards,
    Kempton

P.S. Haricot, honestly, while I am still fighting with Elections Alberta re our Election Act for the last few weeks, I have used up my energy to go deep on complicated-looking stuff. Plus our chat is suppose to be fun and not a ton of work for all of us.

I hope you don’t mind and thanks for your understanding.
