*******

    this is very interesting!!
well, 港女其實是 what we call “high maintenance”!!
this scenario mainly appears in bigger City!!
    thanks for sharing!!
I wonder if this is true that only 港女 is hesitate with the question that 陳子聰:要壞男人定係好男人.

    好好好好笑.謝謝.大開眼界。年輕無價。以為人生選擇很多。大家張張就就,算了.

  3. kempton says:

    gwenzilla,

Yeah, high maintenance gals in bigger city. :) I think HK young girls, girls, ladies and older women had all pushed the worship of brand-name (名牌) and expensive items to the nth degree. Carrying a $10,000 名牌 bag is used as a substitute for being “interesting” or worst as a substitute for having any self-confidence.

    hi exile,

glad you had fun watching the videos, I had a ton of fun too.

Of course, my fun came from watching the women *and* the men. What both sexes said tell us a lot about some people in Hong Kong think.

  4. assenav says:

they are gonna have another episode next week covering 港男, should be fun too.

名牌 is not necessarily expensive, and almost all money-wise women know where to shop for the affordable branded stuff. e.g. coach in USA outlets is much cheaper than HK, and hugo boss is also dirt cheap in german outlets

also, some 名牌 are very durable. e.g, i bought my first and only LV wallet in 2004, it was like 300 euros after tax refund (and was HKD4700 in HK LV, so it was 30% cheaper). I have been using it ever since, and it still looks like new now! and because it’s so expensive and it’s very durable, i will keep using it until total loss. (i think i can use it for 5 to 10 more years.)

but i do agree that majority of the young population in HK lacks confidence and thse people do not know exactly what they want. but you cannot blame them, because it’s the social culture made them like this. and the HK education system never encourages critical thinking.

i read a book “tuesdays with morrie” when i was 15, and one chapter was talking abt culture. and i knew i didn’t have to buy the culture if i didn’t like it. and that was a turning point of my life. without that book, i guess i might end up just like one of those MK girls now, haha.

    Hi assenav,

TVB has made a nice popular TV documentary, I am looking forward to the upcoming “港男” episode. This problem, unfortunately, is not just about women, and it is also (to some extend) men “港男” as well. That’s why I wrote the title that way. ha ha.

Luckily this 加燦 is exempted. With my 燦-ness and 加-component it means that I am no longer “港男”. ha ha.

I’ve heard about Coach, a friend of my here is a fan of Coach.

Vanessa, to me, even “inexpensive” 名牌 products are expensive to me. I tried to have the least logos on anything I wear. Have you heard of Naomi Klien’s book, No Logo? She had some insight in that book. :)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Logo

I heard that “durable” argument too. But for the price some people paid for one wallet, I can buy 15 or even 20! ha ha. Again, it is the indiscriminate pursuit of 名牌 for the outrageous price (and what some girls are willing to do to get that money) that I am against.

“tuesdays with morrie” is a good book. Read it again. I think we get something new when we read this type of book at different stage of our lives.

P.S. You and 揚眉小姐 have a lot of fun 去大馬旅行 la. Do report back your fun and may be post some pictures. I haven’t been to 大馬 since I was little.

  6. assenav says:

i “unfortunately” have very limited 名牌 stuff. no more than 5 pieces (of coz i want more if i can afford). the fact is, we all want brands somehow, e.g. students go to private schools (expensive tuition fees, but they have brand names), people going to the famous restaurants, etc

from an economic pt of view, getting sth with brand name reduces information cost, because you know exactly what you get when you pay for your LV.

well, i do agree it’s absolutely stupid when someone spend the entire monthly salary on a handbag, haha… and some girls even do 援交 just for those high-end fashion.

i read ‘tuesdays with morrie’ three times already, and everytime i finished my book, i gave it to a friend of mine. i m very picky in reading, but this book is absolutely one of my favourite. it taught me wut the genuine meaning of life is.

we will have fun in malaysian. probably will do some diving there.

  7. kempton says:

    hi assenav,

ha ha, the “problem” as I see it is you and many other HK girls/women want more brand-name stuff. I just want good quality and affordable price and would care less about brands most of the time. I, for one, don’t like the idea of bags and stuff that splash their logos and brands on what I wear! They have to pay me for me to become a human advertising billboard of their brand! :)

Right, information cost may be reduce, but you pay through the nose for that ego/brand name cost/premium. :)

P.S. Have fun in Malaysia. Have you dived before? Are you certified? Be safe la. You can hurt yourself and get seriously sick if you are not properly trained and certified. Diving too close before you fly is, I heard, not a safe thing to do too. :)

  8. assenav says:

no we are not certified, so we will take it easy. probably some snorkel diving along the coast. guess it’s just like swimming, should be OK.

we might send u some pix (if my partner agrees) when we come back, haha.

i see wut u mean, but i just don’t see it as a problem. if we can afford to buy those luxury brands, that means they are not expensive to us, lol.

finally, 港女 and 港男 are talking about some qualities commonly found on HK people, it’s not “HK only”. u can have some 港男 qualities even u are in canada

  9. kempton says:

    Hi assenav,

Snorkel diving is fine. Your lungs won’t let you do silly things. Anything else, you should get trained.

Wait for my upcoming 港女港男 article and you will know how I feel and think. Stay tune.

P.S. Ha ha, love to see some pix of the beautiful beaches and girls. Your friend(s) agree of course. Thinking about it, take pictures of some OTHER pretty girls on the beach too!!! :) ha ha. In a -22C weather, I can use something warm to look at. And pretty girls work in all seasons. :)

I like name brands. Name brand means quality. The name brands I like most are: Glock, Beretta, Remington, Walter, Colt, etc…

  12. kempton says:

    Ha ha Horace,

You funny man. The things you like will get you into jail quickly, and I wish it is the same here. May be since we can’t quite ban private guns, we can ban you? Or at least put you into a band and playing some Beatles music instead of playing with guns? How about Love not war? Or Imagine?

    Take care.
